Periodontics is concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the diseases of the support tissues of teeth (gums, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone). On occasion, these support structures of the teeth are affected, leading to a process that progresses slowly, even leading to the loss of teeth. The symptoms are: red, inflamed, painful gums that bleed easily, dental movement, bad breath and bad taste in the mouth. The principal ones are gingivitis and periodontitis and it is the primary cause of loss of teeth in the world population.

The objective of the periodontal treatment is to eliminate the infection that produces the disease and consists of the exhaustive cleaning of the gums and of the teeth by ultrasound, curettes and polishers.

It is very important to make an early diagnosis, for the patient to have correct oral hygiene and for him to go periodically to his check-ups.
